LIVING AREA
-
Emulsion –
white or coloured, and the colour range keeps on increasing!
Natural emulsions give a lively matt finish, the natural
pigment particles diffract light, they are wipeable and,
being plastic free, have anti-static qualities which reduce
dust attraction. Unlike conventional emulsions these paints
produce absolutely no persistent volatile organic compounds,
(VOCs). They have excellent dirt and stain resistance and
can be wiped with a damp cloth. You can choose from paints
that are washable or for heavy wear areas paints with a
soft silk sheen that are scrubbable. If you want to keep
a matt finish we can apply a clear matt wall glaze to add
protection.
-
For new plaster, colourless, water based sealants are available,
or a thinned down mist coat of your chosen emulsion can
be applied as a sealing coat.
-
Clay paint– Clay paint is a clay-based
emulsion suitable for walls and ceilings. It is solvent
free, antistatic, and has very good obliteration. Clay paint
has all the qualities of natural clays, and allows surfaces
to breathe and absorb variations in humidity, making for
a more comfortable living environment.
-
Tierrafino clay plaster is a natural clay plaster (see
Tierrafino clay products) with breathable qualities
and a beautiful finish, to which pigments and mother of
pearl can be added. (This finish is available through ecoartisan).
The clay constituent of this comes from various European
quarries and provides the breathtaking, matte structured
finish. The colours are rich in atmospheric tones. Available
in seven colours, dover-white, roman-ochre, iquitos green,
gomera grey and Nassau orange.

CHILDREN’S
BEDROOMS/NURSERIES
-
All the aforementioned paints used by ecoartisan are safe
for use in nurseries and childrens bedrooms. Both Auro &
Biofa paints are tested and certified to the European standard
for safety on toys as DIN EN 71 part 3, and tested for reaction
to saliva and sweat DIN 53160.
-
Casein Paints: these come in powder form and are mixed on
site. Casein is a very ecologically sound paint using nearly
a dozen natural substances that render the use of titanium
dioxide, solvents & preservatives obsolete. It is washable
after curing and has a soft matt chalky finish. This is
suitable for children’s bedrooms and nurseries. Casein
can be coloured with pigments or colour concentrates. (non-vegan)

WOODWORK
– INTERIOR
-
Gloss and eggshell. These are natural oil-based products
using linseed and/or soya oils. These ingredients give flexibility
and the absence of acrylic components mean they do not crack
or flake. They are also available in an increasing range
of colours.
-
Undercoat & Primer. A range of primers and undercoats
are available for interior and exterior woodwork and interior
walls.
-
Linseed oil paints. Offering a very beautiful finish, this
paint can be used indoors and outdoors. Linseed oil paint
ages visibly after some years, the colour begins to fade
and after more time the paint becomes chalky as the pigment
begins to be released. Brushing the surface and adding new
cooked linseed oil helps the surface regain its former lustre
and function. Available in a wide range of colours. Make
your purchase from a stately home! Originally shipped to
the UK from southern Sweden for the Holkham estate which
has 300 properties to maintain, this paint has meant less
maintenance and better results.
- Linseed
oil is produced from flax seed. It is suitable as a first-stage
protection of all natural porous surfaces, such as timber
and terracotta tiles. It provides deep protection against
water and dirt, while still allowing the surface to breathe
naturally. It can also be used as a pre-treatment for surfaces
that are to be waxed.
- Natural
hard oil. Linseed oil-based, this oil contains added tung
oil and coumarone resin. These ingredients make the oil
tougher and provide additional protection that makes it
suitable for heavily used surfaces, such as floors and stairs.
The oil enhances the natural colour and grain of the wood,
and prevents it drying out. It may be used on interior timber,
cork, natural stone or terracotta tiles and give a transparent
finish.
-
Natural wax. Wax is a tough, transparent finishing protective
coat for all internal timber surfaces. Usually containing
beeswax and carnauba wax as well as natural oils and resins
it can be polished to a silky sheen. Care must be taken
as it takes several days to completely harden and become
fully water repellent...
-
Soya oil-based paints are quick drying while linseed oil
paints tend to be slower drying. Both are microporous and
provide an excellent base for further coats.

WOODWORK

-
Undercoat & Primer. A range of primers and undercoats
are available for interior and exterior woodwork and interior
walls.
-
Linseed oil paints. Offering a very beautiful finish, this
paint can be used indoors and outdoors. If you were considering
painting your windows with linseed oil paint, it is preferable
that they are stripped back to bare wood, if you are having
new timber windows installed, it’s really worthwhile
having the frames dipped in warm linseed oil then having
them painted, they’ll keep their brilliance and be
resilient for years to come. Linseed oil paint ages visibly
after some years, the colour begins to fade and after more
time the paint becomes chalky as the pigment begins to be
released. Brushing the surface and adding new cooked linseed

RADIATORS
-
Auro produce a paint specifically for primed steel and cast
iron radiators. It is heat-resistant up to 70c.

EXTERNAL
PAINTS
-
Silicate paint - Silicate masonry paint is suitable for
use on mineral-based surfaces such as stone, concrete, plaster
and masonry that has not been previously painted. It is
based on stabilised sodium silicate, which enables the paint
to bond chemically with its substrate. This results in a
breathable coating, which is far less likely to flake or
crack. Silica is very hard wearing, weather and UV resistant.
