CASE STUDY: London apartment
This 3 storey hallway required complete redecoration. We replastered the wall by the boiler and resealed the existing lining paper using border adhesive. After a good clean down with sugar soap we repainted the walls and ceilings with natural emulsion paint from Biofa.
The woodwork was wet and dry sanded and finished with Green Paints eggshell.
CASE STUDY: Wood Green terrace
This terraced house had been untouched since the 1970’s. Unfortunately all the works done prior to that were carried out by the Stevie Wonder Construction Company! Layer upon layer of glossed woodwork, wallpaper on top of wallpaper and crumbling plaster underneath it all.
No problem.
We exposed the fireplaces , stripped all the walls and ceilings and replastered several rooms. The final touch, to make it all deliciously fresh with ‘Walnut Cream’ and ‘Mellow Yellow’, using natural silicate paint from Biofa for the walls and ceiling, (a lovely finish and a natural antiseptic) and Green Paints eggshell, another environmentally friendly natural paint, for the woodwork.. Much nicer now hmmh?
the before and after theme continues.. A small patch in the lower left photo shows how innocuous-looking plaster damage can be. A clean back and replaster transforms the problem.
CASE STUDY: house redecoration, Ealing
This 4 bed property required a complete redecoration. The previous owner had a penchant for DIY. Every shelf edge looked as though it was cut with a blunt handsaw. We routed them smooth and tidied where needed. Poorly applied wallpaper was stripped back and re-lined, and some rooms re-plastered. The 70’s halogens in the kitchen were removed, then plastered over and new light holes cut for an update on the lighting front. All finished off with a thorough preparation and repaint in natural emulsion from Auro and eggshell from Green Paints.
CASE STUDY: Redecoration of 3 storey hallway and new attic conversion
This late Victorian property had just had a loft conversion fitted prior to ecoartisan’s arrival. The family had experienced some bumpy times with the conversion work and the quality of finish on areas of new and old plasterwork required further attention.
With two young children life can be hectic. ecoartisan minimised our intrusion into their schedules and kept work areas clean and safe.
Initially we started work in the new attic bedroom. A laminate floor was laid and the skirting board was re-fitted properly. The walls and ceiling were then coated and finally the woodwork was shellacked (resin stopper) primed, undercoated and final coated.
We then moved on to the hallway so the parents could move into their new bedroom and relax in their en-suite! The family have two small children and their main concern was the amount of materials that would have to be used on the project – if they were petro-chemical based that is.
The family were very pleased to discover that not only did the natural paints used not produce any noxious smells or lingering aromas, but were very affordable.
CASE STUDY: Swiss Cottage townhouse.
Having recently purchased this 17 room house the owner required a complete redecoration.
The project involved carpentry, electrical, plumbing and plastering works. Paints specified throughout were supplied by Farrow & Ball.
The client required this rather large fireplace removed. The wall required re-plastering and fitting of a new limestone fireplace.
We removed some built-in furniture and made good.
The client required the vestibule area leading to the master bedroom be opened up by removing the door and frame, and re-routing the electrics.
Much of the woodwork here was finished using our HVLP spray system, this method has much less overspray and wastage than compressor systems, as well as offering a far superior finish.
CASE STUDY: Le Vesinet, Paris. Hallway
The hallway of this splendid chateau required it’s cracks raking out, refilling with Toupret Murex, and a fresh coat of silicate white paint.
CASE STUDY: Le Vesinet, Paris. Railing restoration
Yes a month in Paris sounds nice. But when a lot of it is taken up removing decades of undergrowth and rust….
We had to weld new plates in some areas and build up the anti-rust and top coating system over nearly 50m of railings.
The results speak for themselves!
CASE STUDY: Le Vesinet, Paris – limestone wall restoration.
The clients wanted their 200 year old wall cleaned of algae and moss, with decayed pointing and crumbling stones repaired.
We sieved and kept the scrapings and mixed that with mortar to retain the original feel and colour.
At some point in the 1970’s sections of the top of the wall were unsympathetically clad in cement. We were asked to continue this along the wall but suggested the scrapings would allow us to round off the top by hand. The client agreed, and very happy they were too, as were we! A fitting end to a lovely series of projects in this idyllic scene.
CASE STUDY: repairs
Before and after. This chimney breast suffered from water damage. A clean and dry out followed by an application of Toupret Murex, an excellent French material, and hey presto!

CASE STUDY: Tranholmen
Situated on the beautiful Swedish island of Tranholmen, this 1930’s sports chalet was used by its owner as an occasional retreat. The owners’ brief started out quite simple. To re-decorate using light coloured, natural paints.
I showed the client my file of design clippings. One article in particular caught their eye, this was of plywood cladding the walls of a rather glamorous home somewhere in Australia.
This article inspired the clients to rethink their requirements, and they decided to have one wall clad in Scandinavian Birch with a shadow gap, and the rest of the room -log wall included- painted in a flat white.
We sanded the log wall, stripped the fabric wallcovering, cleaned up and applied primer and paint. After the requisite number of coats the whole room took on a new form: bright, white, crisp and fresh!
The panels were sized and cut, and the shadow gap fitted, a tricky installation but an absolute transformation.!
CASE STUDY: Superpopmansion, Belgium
A fantabuolous opportunity to paint a kitsch loo in Bubblegum Pink with gold glitter suspended in glaze as a topcoat.
CASE STUDY: Superpopmansion, Belgium
Another great opportunity to indulge in colour. This time the call came to London; “we want our radiators spray painted in Hot Pink… fluorescent of course.” “Absolutement!” we replied! This project benefitted from our HVLP spray gun, giving fantastic results..
CASE STUDY: Duffer by Nitty Gritty, Stockholm
The client initially wanted the ceiling replaced and wallpaper, in the form of Chinese sea-grass, fitted.
The Duffer by Nitty Gritty sells high-end British clothing and footwear, the clients thought the most relevant look would be that of a 19th century English bachelors residence. Whilst I might have thought this could look nice.. My suggestion of a mid century modern feel would allow for better display of the garments and fit better with the clienteles own taste.
The client agreed. Always nice that!
Ecoartisan was commissioned to design and make the shop fittings. The shelving system was constructed from MDF with a flat black lacquer applied and acrylic shelving, topped off with concealed fixings. On time (tight deadline) and on budget of course!
CASE STUDY: Beyond Retro, Great Marlborough Street, London, W1
The flagship London store for vintage clothing store ‘Beyond Retro’, required a rather lovely wallpaper with a drop of up to 7 metres. The vintage lingerie section benefitted from our experience in applying Bristol glitter paints, built up in layers to achieve a solid finish. This paint effect can look equally lovely in a child's room.
CASE STUDY: On The Rocks nightclub in Shoreditch
A dated foyer of bronzed mirror tiles needed stripping out and retiling. We suggested adding a picture frame around the cashiers cubby hole. The client then asked for suggestions for a security gate for the club shop, that would allow customers to view the stock but not gain access unless authorised. I came up with this design made by our rather skilled metalworking colleague.
CASE STUDY: On The Rocks nightclub in Shoreditch
The paints used in the windowless shop were by Zinsser, perfect for areas suffering from damp.
The rest of the club provided us with plenty of creative input including painting the surfaces a deep purple then adding sprinkles of iridescent glitter. We also built ‘soundboxes’, insulation filled lightweight containers to absorb bass noise and fitted them over the stage.
CASE STUDY: The Rainforest Foundation
“Help! We’ve only got 3 weeks to move into our new offices and we need rooms built, storage made, a kitchen fitted, and the whole lot decorating!” Said the man from the Rainforest Foundation. “OK.” I said.
